“Here,” Robert said, handing his mom a box. “Dad told me to give this to you if we ever needed help.” Inside, Kathleen found a note: “Dear Kathleen, I left too soon, but I knew Robert would give you this when the time was right. I love you both. —Simon.” That night, Kathleen placed the note in Simon’s diary, but noticed something strange—the handwriting didn’t match.

Robert noticed his mother, Kathleen, was overwhelmed with grief and financial struggles after his father’s death. One day, he handed her a box his late father, Simon, had given him, saying, “Dad told me to give this to you when we needed help.” Inside, Kathleen found a note from Simon and $15,000.

The letter expressed Simon’s love and regret for leaving them too soon. However, later that night, Kathleen noticed the handwriting on the letter didn’t match her husband’s. Realizing Robert had written it, she asked him about it the next day. Robert confessed that Simon hadn’t left the box—he had. Robert had been secretly working multiple jobs for two years to save the money, hoping to help his mother pay the bills and ease her burden.

Kathleen, moved by her son’s dedication, apologized for not noticing his efforts sooner. Inspired by Robert’s hard work, she sought extra work and found a job at the same courier service where Robert worked. The owner, Adam, offered them a place to live rent-free in a house he inherited. With this help, Kathleen and Robert managed to save up and eventually bought a small house of their own, starting a new chapter in their lives debt-free. They stayed friends with Adam and even took him on a trip to Europe as thanks for his kindness.
