Poor Riona was cruelly set on fire with gasoline — but after a long road of recovery, she’s finally getting the happy ending she deserves.

It’s heartbreaking to witness the cruelty some animals endure, as exemplified by Riona, a sweet pitbull mix who suffered immensely after being brutally set on fire by her owner last year. However, a year after this horrific incident, Riona is finally heading to her new forever home.

Last June, residents of Nutbush, Tennessee, were horrified to see Riona running down the street engulfed in flames. The unmistakable smell of gasoline indicated that this was no accident. “All you could smell was gas,” said Mallory Mclemore from Bluff City Veterinary Specialists. Witness accounts and ring camera footage confirmed the intentional act.

Riona was severely injured, losing her ear and suffering from extensive burns, but she received urgent medical care at Tails of Hope Dog Rescue. There, she underwent skin grafts and daily full-body wraps. Despite her trauma, Riona remained in good spirits, often wagging her tail and showing love to everyone around her.

Her story gained worldwide attention, going viral on TikTok and inspiring donations and support for her recovery. Unfortunately, her owner, Quishon Brown, was arrested and charged with multiple felonies, including aggravated cruelty to animals.

Months later, Riona’s condition improved, and Tails of Hope announced that she would soon embark on a ten-hour road trip to her new home. “Riona has other dogs to play with, children to enjoy, and a family with medical experience,” said Ginger Natoli, founder of Tails of Hope.

As Riona’s journey takes a positive turn, Tails of Hope reminds us that their work is ongoing. Immediately after Riona’s departure, they welcomed another burn victim into their care, underscoring the continued need for animal rescue efforts. Despite her harrowing past, Riona’s future is bright, and her story is just beginning.
