Elon Musk, the world’s richest man, is building a massive 14,400-square-foot mansion designed to bring his large family closer together. Musk envisions a space where his 11 kids and two of their mothers can live nearby, enabling his younger children to grow up together and Musk to spend more time with them.

Musk’s family plans include multiple properties in Austin, Texas, reportedly totaling around $35 million, with one six-bedroom mansion just a 10-minute walk from Musk’s main villa. This compound would unite his children from three different relationships: ex-wife Justine Musk, mother of his twins and triplets; ex-partner Claire Boucher (Grimes), with whom he shares three children; and Shivon Zilis, who lives in Austin and has children with Musk.

However, the setup is not without challenges. Grimes opposes Musk’s plans and prefers an additional mansion in Los Angeles to ensure flexible living arrangements. Musk’s idea for a family compound initially faced setbacks after the U.S. Justice Department probed Tesla resources potentially funding a lavish glass house for Musk. His vision also faces familial tension—his transgender daughter Vivian has publicly criticized Musk, challenging the cohesive family image he aims to create.
