When Leland’s parents came home to pick out clothes for the boy’s funeral, they found a note from their son. They broke down as soon as they saw it.

Parents find note son left them before death from brain bacteria

Leland Shoemake, a bright and loving 6-year-old from Georgia, captured hearts with his sharp mind, creativity, and joyful spirit. Tragically, in 2015, he fell ill with a rare brain infection caused by Balamuthia mandrillaris, likely contracted while playing outdoors—his favorite activity.

Despite his brave fight, Leland passed away on September 25, 2015. When his grieving parents returned home, they found a heartfelt note on the living room table. The message read: “Still with you… Thank you mom and dad… Love,” alongside a red heart containing the words mom, dad, love.

This simple note became a profound source of comfort and a testament to Leland’s love for his family. His mother, Amber, shared her pain and cherished memories of her son, describing him as a gifted, caring, and vibrant child who touched everyone around him.

Leland’s story is a poignant reminder to treasure our loved ones and the moments we share. His legacy of love and joy lives on, inspiring all who hear of him.
