Josef Fritzl, one of the world’s most infamous sex offenders, may soon walk free. His lawyer, Astrid Wagner, claims the 89-year-old could be released as early as next year due to his age and deteriorating health.

Fritzl was sentenced to life in prison in 2009 for imprisoning his daughter, Elisabeth, in a basement for 24 years, where he repeatedly abused her and fathered seven children. The case came to light when one child required medical attention.

Despite his horrific crimes, Fritzl reportedly believes that society will welcome him upon release. His lawyer, however, dismisses this as delusional, stating, β€œI don’t think he fully understands what the world really thinks.”

In January 2024, a court ruled that Fritzl was no longer a danger, potentially paving the way for his transfer to a lower-security prison and eventual release. Ms. Wagner plans to submit a parole application in March, confident about its success.

Shockingly, Fritzl has expressed a desire to live in a house with a cellar, citing storage needs. This unsettling request evokes memories of the horrors he inflicted in his purpose-built basement. His family, who have cut all ties, continue to live in the shadow of his unimaginable crimes.
