Christie and Wesley Werts began their journey as a blended family five years ago, uniting Christie’s daughter, Megan, with Wesley’s children, Austin and Dakota. Little did they know their love story would take an extraordinary turn with the adoption of their miracle baby, Levi.
The couple’s path to adoption was marked by resilience, waiting 16 months to bring Levi home. Born prematurely at 33 weeks in August 2021, Levi’s biological mother—Wesley’s former partner—struggled with addiction and tragically passed away from complications related to drug use and COVID-19 just days after his birth.
Christie, who experienced foster care herself, felt compelled to provide Levi with a loving home. Remarkably, she had dreamed of a blond-haired, blue-eyed baby for months before learning about Levi. Meeting him for the first time through Child Protection Services in Texas, Christie immediately knew, “This was my son.”
The Werts family faced numerous challenges, including selling their Ohio home and relocating to Texas for court proceedings to terminate Levi’s biological father’s parental rights. After countless interviews and inspections, Levi’s adoption was finalized.
While the family’s story inspired many, Christie faced online criticism for sharing it publicly. Despite this, many celebrated the couple’s love and dedication, wishing them happiness with their new son.
