While Democratic lawmakers were visibly frustrated by President Donald Trump’s return to the Capitol, polling suggests Americans felt otherwise.

A CBS News/YouGov survey conducted after Trump’s joint address to Congress revealed that 76% of viewers approved of his speech, while only 23% disapproved. Over two-thirds described the address as hopeful, presidential, inspiring, unifying, and entertaining.

More than 75% of respondents supported Trump’s proposals on reducing government waste, border security, and immigration, while a majority believed he had a clear plan to tackle inflation, a crisis that began under President Joe Biden.

Despite negative media coverage leading up to the event, Trump’s speech resonated beyond his base, with only 51% of viewers identifying as Republicans. His handling of Ukraine and Russia also garnered unexpected approval.

Trump’s performance won praise across media and political circles. Sen. Ted Cruz called it his “best ever,” while Fox News’ Brit Hume declared Trump the “political colossus of our time.” Even former CNN analyst Chris Cillizza admitted, “That was a very effective speech.”

As Republican momentum builds, Trump’s strong messaging appears to be cementing his influence ahead of the next election.
