Cilla Carden, a massage therapist from Perth, Australia, took her neighbors to court after claiming the smell of their barbecue and the sound of basketball disrupted her ability to enjoy her backyard. As a vegan, she said the smell of fish was particularly bothersome, causing her sleepless nights and distress.

“It’s been devastating. I can’t enjoy my backyard,” Carden told *9News* in 2019.

Despite her claims, the court rejected her case and subsequent appeal to the Supreme Court. Carden believed her neighbors acted deliberately, though they showed they had removed the barbecue and stopped the basketball games.

The case gained national attention, leading to a Facebook event inviting people to a community BBQ outside Carden’s home. Over 24,000 people responded, prompting police intervention and legal threats, which led to the event’s cancellation.

Carden’s lawyer later clarified that she had no objections to people eating meat or hosting barbecues.

What do you think of Carden’s decision to take legal action?
