Autopsies on Gene Hackman, his wife Betsy Arakawa, and their dog have been completed, with no external trauma found. Authorities are awaiting toxicology reports to determine the cause of death.

Despite initial concerns about carbon monoxide poisoning, tests showed their home was safe. The bodies, found after at least a day—possibly up to two weeks—showed partial mummification due to the dry climate. Hackman was discovered in a mudroom, his cane and sunglasses nearby, while Arakawa was found in the bathroom near an open bottle of prescription medication.

Investigators found no signs of foul play, and results from the autopsy could take weeks. Hackman, 93, was reportedly in good health, practicing yoga and pilates regularly. His daughter Leslie praised her stepmother for keeping him alive during their 34-year marriage. Santa Fe Mayor Alan Webber honored Hackman as a kind and humble community member.
