An interview between former President Donald Trump and Elon Musk aired on X (formerly Twitter), drawing over 1 million listeners despite technical delays. While Musk, a known Trump supporter, expected an audience closer to 8 million, the interview still generated considerable buzz, with Trump branding it as the “greatest interview ever.”
The discussion kicked off with Trump recounting an assassination attempt he survived at a Pennsylvania rally. Musk, the X owner and Tesla CEO, joined him on stage wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat and his signature “Occupy Mars” shirt. Together, they criticized Democrats, with Musk asserting they had “taken [Biden] out back behind the shed and basically shot him.”
Trump addressed inflation concerns, saying, “I think we have the worst inflation we’ve had in 100 years.” He alleged prices for everyday items like bacon had surged significantly. He also targeted Vice President Kamala Harris on issues like immigration, calling her a “radical left” liberal and accusing her of being “more Trump than Trump.”
In a stark statement, Trump called domestic enemies “more dangerous” than foreign ones and praised leaders of North Korea, China, and Russia for being “tough, smart, and vicious.” He also criticized Europe for its role in the Ukraine conflict and accused the European Union of unfair trade practices.
While Musk has shown mixed support for Trump over the years, they share mutual views on COVID-19 restrictions and federal investigations against Musk’s companies under the Biden administration.
Commenting on Trump’s evolving campaign strategy, journalist Mike Rothschild observed that Trump has effectively bypassed traditional media, reaching new voters through digital platforms, streamers, and influencers. Following the interview, a spokesperson for the Harris campaign criticized Trump, claiming his extremism “was on full display.”
